about

These songs were written in a French Quarter apartment and a double shotgun house in New Orleans, a downtown apartment and an eastside bungalow in Los Angeles and points in between, on dark highways in the middle of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. This collection of original songs, including one, perhaps unexpected cover by Pat Benetar represents three years of travel, change, pain and growth but also plenty of love, friendship and lots of good times. We're proud to present our third album…Last to Leave.

Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue New Orleans, Louisiana

Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue were at the vanguard of New Orleans’ now-thriving country scene when they formed over a decade ago, and they’ve remained in a league of their own ever since. Combining evocative songwriting, impeccable musicianship, and a twinge of punk sensibility to boot, their infectious Western swing energy has helped grow an avid fan-base of two-steppers around the world. ... more

Track Name: The Long Black Ribbon
It’s a long way to El Paso from this East Texas town
A long way to go before I lay my body down
It’s a long way to Las Cruces for a lonely vagabond
The Long Black Ribbon stretches on

The Long Black Ribbon
Taking me away and back again
The Long Black Ribbon
A companion and a long lost friend
Through the mountains and the rivers
And the big city centers
The Long Black Ribbon stretches on

Time passes slowly as the landscape runs away
To the silence of the suns golden rays
Darkness creeps around us we’ll be driving ‘til the dawn
The Long Black Ribbon stretches on
Track Name: She's a Killer
A painted rose in a red dress
A night queen born of excess
She walks like a woman but she thinks like a man
She gets what she wants and she takes what she can

Ooooo boys, you better watch your hearts tonight
Ooooo girls, you better keep your eyes on your wandering guys
Baby’s struttin’ she’s a cat out on the prowl
There’s bound to be trouble if she can’t get a man somehow
She’s a Killer

Don’t you see her out on the strip
A commotion every time she flips
Don’t get too close, one look can kill
Always in danger ‘til she’s had her fill
Track Name: Last to Leave
I said I wasn’t gonna stand here talking like this
With the thoughts pouring out of my head
I said I wasn’t be here sitting around
When I oughta be going to bed
Hours have passed and still I’m here
Singing this same old song
Hanging with whoever
Drinking all night long

So fly away, fly away home
Your bed’s on fire your husband gone
Four long years he was on his knees
Begging you to come home please, girl please
Have you lost your path
What you looking for in the bottom of a glass
You’ve found everything you need
When you find yourself…Last to Leave

I like my whiskey straight my coffee black
When I leave this place I’m never looking back
It’s a chapter in a worn out tale
Many live to tell
Now you can’t always justify
Sitting here, getting high
Time waits for no one
And was never on your side
Track Name: Broke Down and Broke
Broke Down and Broke
Ain’t that the way that it always goes
When time is on your side and you’re feeling mighty fine
Moving on down the road
Broke Down and Broke
We’ve got places to go
The show is a-waiting there’s no time for wasting
We’re Broke Down and Broke

Thinking maybe so
We should have stopped a few miles ago
Out side the last town when we heard that funny sound
Now the black smoke’s burning my nose
Stuck on the side of the road
We need a tow to the nearest garage
Made a call to AAA but they wouldn’t pay
A hundred five degrees and we’re losing hope

She ain’t what she used to be
It’s time to put the old girl down
There’ll be no next time my friends it won’t happen again
Lesson learned in the first degree
Track Name: Broken Rings
He doesn’t know I’m thinking of you
When he holds me close at night
It’s gonna break his heart when he finds out
It’s been you on my mind

I lie awake cold and hungry
But I can’t eat a bite
I tell myself again it was just a sin
Not love at first sight

Broken Rings because of you and me
Faithful hands can’t stop the heart from turning round
So here’s to Broken Rings

I haven’t had no kind of loving
In my house that ain’t a home
Then you came along with your siren song
Now I’m drowning all alone
Track Name: Rainy Nights, Sunny days
Well they say it never rains in California
And I’ve only been out here a little while
But let me tell you brother, this weather’s like no other
These gray days turn into rainy nights
Gray days, these gloomy gray days
These gray days turn into rainy nights

Blue skies are bound to come again
Yeah, those blues skies will come and turn around
These rainy gray days brother, tell your sister and your lover
These rainy nights turns into sunny days
Rainy nights, these long rainy nights
These Rainy Nights turn into Sunny Days

Well it rains a lot down in Louisiana
And I’ve lived down here for many many years
So let me ask you brother, ain’t this weather like no other
These gray days turn into rainy nights
Gray days, these gloomy gray days
These gray days turn into rainy nights

It’s a gray day for feeling blue
A gray day for feeling kind of low
But if your heart is heavy maybe this will keep you steady
These rainy nights turns into sunny days
Gray days and rainy nights
Rainy nights, sunshiny days
These Rainy Nights turn into Sunny Days
Track Name: Teach Me How to Two Step
Teach Me How to Two Step honey
Show me how you’re working the floor
I’ve been here all night and I still can’t quite
Get it never done it before
Quick quick slow, my feet wanna go
Dancing to the beat of the country band
Teach Me How to Two Step, dance in duet
Teach Me How to Two Step, honey

Teach Me How to Two Step honey
Show me how you’re working the floor
I’ve been here all night and I still can’t quite
Get it never done it before
Don’t blame me though if I step on your toes
When we’re out on the floor and you’re holding me close
Teach Me How to Two Step, dance in duet
Teach Me How to Two Step, honey
Track Name: South of I-12
The highway blues have found us
The blacktop’s got us down
On the road to somewhere
Everyone’s running ‘round
But here it comes again
Filling us with doubt
‘Cause ain’t nothing South of I-12
Built on solid ground

It’s just a few more hours
We’ll make it safe and sound
Perhaps one day we can settle in
And stop this run around
Eventually this duck and dodge
Will drive us from this town
‘Cause ain’t nothing South of I-12
Built on solid ground

Even if we stick around
And ride this party out
Cool winds come rushing in
On angry thunderclouds
But here it comes again
Filling us with doubt
‘Cause ain’t nothing South of I-12
Built on solid ground
Track Name: The Ballad of Addie & Zack
Listen dear Addie, poor Addie Hall
It's not your fault
It cost his soul when he lost control
Poor poor Addie Hall

These are the dark and wild times
Here is the new frontier
Gone are the woman and the man
That I will tell of here

When Uncle Sam called Zach Bowen was brave
And made his pappy proud
Back home he met a sweet young thing
A new life he had found

He never spoke about the vow
He'd made or what he'd done
The darkness that lay deep inside
Was beating like a drum

He did commit a blackened deed
The devil's feast was lain
And though he wished it all a dream
He knew that he must pay

I'll not detail for gentle ears
More for it was grim
But when the sunlight showed its face
He'd torn her limb from limb
Track Name: To Make Amends
All these sleepless nights
All these days and weeks
All this toil and strife
All this love that we seek

How does it all add up
How does it all fit in
To this crazy like
How do I begin

To Make Amends for…
Hearts that got broken
Dreams not come true
Hearts that got broken
And my heart is aching for you

What did you want to be
When you were just a child
Do you even know
What you’re heart desired

Did you fall in love
Did you break his heart
Was it worth your while
How do you begin
Track Name: You Mean the World to Me
He made a living under neon signs
Keeping it going is the one thing he does right
And when he came stumbling home
To her at the end of each night
He said…

I’m thinking of you wherever I may roam
And I hope you hear these words so that you will know
You Mean the World to Me
And my heart never strays
Even when I’m far away
You Mean the World to Me

She really missed him everyone could see
She said that he looked good but it was bittersweet
And as she drove away
And brushed away her tears
She said…
